you won't be able to do it, because the stoner kids don't listen to rock anymore.

if i may make a prediction, the classic rock radio format will be non-existant within 10-15 years, and replaced by the Classic Rap format "Featuring the best of the nineties, zeroes AND tens!" it'll be impossible to avoid gottdamned Eminem even thirty years from now.

as much as i pined for the death of the classic rock radio format while it was king,
given its death, and the negligible value of the new royalty,
i'm a little nostalgic for it.

The kids who work at the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at the CSULB student union still play the Doors and Zepplin almost every time I'm in there. Going from the new indie & commercial hip hop MTV feed in the food court, to the very eclectic union-only college station on the PA in the halls, to the CBTL classic rock, is almost disorienting.

A few Classic Rock moments:

Anything by Led Zepplin. CP already nabbed "Kashmir", so I'll say "All of My Love".
"All Along the Watchtower" by Jimi Hendrix.
"While My Guitar Gently Weeps" by the Beatles.
"Dream On" by Aerosmith.
"Ziggy Stardust" by Bowie.
Should be some CCR on this list, but I can't be bothered right now to remember which of their songs I dug.

boy, they sure are a different band now that they've given up the heroin.
i like a few of their songs, like "Nobody's Fault" and "Round and Round", although those aren't really hits.
"Sweet Emotion" was always a hit that i could sing along to.

well come on. you can't go wrong with Bowie. unless you're talking about records he's done in the last five years or so.

everyone always says what a waste it was that he died at the peak of his creativity,
but dude, just imagine what a parody of himself he'd be if he were still alive!

Post-heroin, post-mortem

As much as I'm glad for anyone who escapes the clutches of an opiate addiction, the departure seems to degrade bands' creative output. Why is pain the fuel for so much excellent art? Hendrix would almost certainly have lost his shot at musical sainthood by stickin' around the living world.

Ole' switch-eyes
I picked a glam era Bowie tune because it seemed to fit the genre best. The classic rock stations in LA tend to play Young Americans, Fame, or Golden Years though, all of which I usually prefer over the Stardust. For recent Davey, I enjoy the Heathen album. I like what that famous Brazilian singer did with his songs in the Life Aquatic too, just picked up that soundtrack last month.
