vuzh: seven (cigars)
There was a Shaggy Mane (Coprinus comatus) in the back yard today! This is both the first shaggy of the year, and the first one I've ever seen in our yard. Our yard has become more and more mushroomy since we've lived here, and I swear we haven't done anything to encourage it!

Okay, okay, I did try to start shaggys in the front yard once or twice (about fifty feet and on the other side of the fence from where this one fruited -- I grabbed a few caps from different spots around town and let them deliquesce all in one spot... didn't work)

Meanwhile, I'm exhausted from planting most of the new plants, the rock garden looks awesome, after things flush out a bit, maybe I'll take a picture. Otherwise, I'm wanting to go back and appreciate those new plantings with the first cigar of the year, after eating some oyster mushroom soup.

The squirrels are enjoying the fresh turned dirt, and burying the peanuts I bought for them in it.

Got too tired to drill holes for solitary bees, so maybe next weekend.

Honeybees are all over our backyard this year, more than ever! I'm surprised. It's really due to our apple tree which is blossoming in the most amazing way, you seriously can't believe it, it's incredible. There is also a HUGE patch of dandelions in wifey's garden, very dense groupings of yellow, very large flowers, and the bees are gathering lots of pollen from them as well. Our goal is to have bees in the yard all year long. We ought to plant alfalfa.

While out working in the yard, I've been downloading the very early Muslimgauze record "Blind Horses." Let's see, only 2 and a half hours to go. I bet I'm the only one left in the world with dialup, huh? Link for downloady type persons who dig them some Muslimgauze is here.
