vuzh music will never go anywhere based on recordings alone.
in the current climate, recorded music is basically valueless, an artist can upload all the mp3s she/he wants, but one almost can't give the stuff away: downloaders are busy downloading the popular music they want, and will not download, less purchase music by an artist they do not know.
the future of my music has to be live performance.
i've never performed my music live in front of an audience before, but i have performed in front of an audience in high school choirs and theatrical performances, those experiences may be helpful.
at this time i make the following assumptions:
live performance will be a promotional event to generate CDr sales* -->
thus the material performed live should reflect CDr content.* -->
the recorded music i have released is carefully constructed, and edited, and probably not reproducable in most cases -->
therefore a representative performance would entail music of a similar mood and texture to something one might find on a vuzhmusic CDr, not necessarily a recreation of recorded material -->
if no material is being reproduced directly, improvisation is probably the best strategy in the short term -->
efforts must be made to make a performance both timbrally varied and visually interesting to the audient and prospective customer.*
obviously a great deal of thought must go into this before i could even begin the practicing for a nascent set list.
what will it take for me to perform some music live?
what equipment do i need?
what planning must be made?
only later should the question be asked...
what sort of venue should i play?
(* these assumptions presume that my strength is not in performance, but in studio, and thus the live performance is going to be the lesser of the two, and so sales to a customer would be preferrable, not necessarily from a revenue-generating standpoint, but from the aim of presenting a strong work. i acknowledge that this presumption may be false, but there is no way of knowing for now.)
