fairy rings
tonight, i fried up those Marasmius Oreades that we collected last week.
i'm not certain why, but i was quite anxious about eating these, even though i am one hundred percent sure of my identification... i still had to go through the key just once more before eating them.
i suppose this is probably since it's one of the 'little brown mushrooms' -- that ubiquitous, maligned group of unstudied mushrooms that the experts always recommend you stay away from. the Fairy Ring Mushroom however is the hidden gem of the LBMs.
for such a small, insignificant seeming mushroom, i was surprised at its presence in the meal. i fried them with some onions, which is what i always do with a new shroom. they had a nice chewy texture and a mild, nutty, slightly sweet, complex taste.
yeah, i'll be combing the lawns all summer.
